Estimating Your Fabric Needs

An important factor in determining your budget for production will be the yardage required to make your item. Once we make your pattern, we create a cutters must, which is a document that contains important information about your product, including a breakdown of pattern pieces, a flat of your item, the various fabrics and notions needed and the amount needed for each fabric and notion. The yardage noted is based on both the pattern and the width of the fabric you choose. Your cutters must will be updated if you change your fabric and the width is different, or if you change your pattern - say revising a mini dress to make it a maxi dress. Until we get to that point, it's helpful to have a general guide for fabric estimations, so we have created a Fabric Estimates graphic that you can keep handy as you think about items you would like to add to your collection.
